چکیده

Large deviation for Markov processes can be studied by Hamilton– Jacobi equation techniques. The method of proof involves three steps: First, we apply a nonlinear transform to generators of the Markov processes, and verify that limit of the transformed generators exists. Such limit induces a Hamilton–Jacobi equation. Second, we show that a strong form of uniqueness (the comparison principle) holds for the limit equation. Finally, we verify an exponential compact containment estimate. The large deviation principle then follows from the above three verifications. This paper illustrates such a method applied to a class of Hilbertspace-valued small diffusion processes. The examples include stochastically perturbed Allen–Cahn, Cahn–Hilliard PDEs and a one-dimensional quasilinear PDE with a viscosity term. We prove the comparison principle using a variant of the Tataru method. We also discuss different notions of viscosity solution in infinite dimensions in such context.

Second Order Hamilton--Jacobi Equations in Hilbert Spaces and Stochastic Boundary Control

The paper is concerned with fully nonlinear second order Hamilton{Jacobi{Bellman{ Isaacs equations of elliptic type in separable Hilbert spaces which have unbounded rst and second order terms. The viscosity solution approach is adapted to the equations under consideration and the existence and uniqueness of viscosity solutions is proved. A stochastic optimal control problem driven by a paraboli...

On the Non-Uniqueness of Solutions to the Average Cost HJB for Controlled Diffusions with Near-Monotone Costs

We present a theorem for verification of optimality of controlled diffusions under the average cost criterion with near-monotone running cost, without invoking any blanket stability assumptions. The implications of this result to the policy iteration algorithm are also discussed. Index Terms controlled diffusions, near-monotone costs, Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation, policy iteration

Nonlinear diffusions, hypercontractivity and the optimal L-Euclidean logarithmic Sobolev inequality

The equation ut = ∆p(u 1/(p−1)) for p > 1 is a nonlinear generalization of the heat equation which is also homogeneous, of degree 1. For large time asymptotics, its links with the optimal Lp-Euclidean logarithmic Sobolev inequality have recently been investigated. Here we focuse on the existence and the uniqueness of the solutions to the Cauchy problem and on the regularization properties (hype...

A Singular 1-d Hamilton-jacobi Equation, with Application to Large Deviation of Diffusions∗

The comparison principle (uniqueness) for the Hamilton-Jacobi equation is usually established through arguments involving a distance function. In this article we illustrate the subtle nature of choosing such a distance function, using a special example of one dimensional Hamiltonian with coefficient singularly (non-Lipschitz) depending upon the state variable. The standard method of using Eucli...
